Description
The Wildlife Encounter and Snorkel Excursion is the perfect experience if you’re a nature fan wanting to experience Roatán’s most exciting wildlife, as well as its world-renowned coral reef.
You’ll start your tour by visiting a slaughter of spiny-tailed iguanas, a protected species that was commonly used in iguana stew until it was made illegal in 2004. Watch these fascinating creatures slowly wander through their sanctuary habitat, stopping to bask in the sun and, if you’re lucky, providing you with a regal pose that’s ideal for a photo opp.
Next up, your expert tour will give you the full lowdown on the creatures living at the Daniel Johnson Monkey and Sloth Hangout, a refuge whose aim is to protect the nature and delicate ecosystem of Roatan. You’ll get to meet everyone’s favorite upside-down dwelling creature, the sloth, along with the mischievous resident monkeys. Slow-moving sloths are always available for interaction - they love a cuddle - and you might just spot a tropical-colored parrot or two as you make your way around the hangout taking care to keep your belongings out of sassy monkeys’ hands!
You’ll probably be ready for a cool down after making friends with so many animals, and you’re in luck, as your next stop is one of Roatan’s best beaches where you’ll zip out on a boat to snorkel the turquoise waters, taking in some breathtaking coral formations and tropical fish.
A refuel at one of the best restaurants around will finish off your 4.5-hour tour, before you’re dropped back at your hotel or cruise port, tired out and knowing you’ve done your bit to protect Roatán’s precious wildlife for years to come.
