Grand Cayman Shore Excursion: West Bay Tour by Land Rover
Description
After port pickup in George Town, climb aboard an open-air Land Rover for your 4x4 tour of western Grand Cayman. Nearing West Bay, rumble along a deserted expanse of shoreline bordered on one side by the sparkling Caribbean Sea and by thick mangroves on the other. Listen as your guide explains the features of Barker’s National Park, which encompasses a 100-acre (40-hectare) nature preserve.
Then head straight to Hell — a small coastal town where you can send mail postmarked with the curious town name. Disembark your vehicle at a viewing platform to observe the black limestone rock for which the town was named.
After learning about the geological formations, continue by Land Rover to the Tortuga Rum Cake Factory for a delectable tasting of this Caribbean specialty. See rum cakes being glazed by hand with oak-barrel-aged Tortuga Gold Rum, then sample uniquely flavored rum cake — including Blue Mountain coffee, coconut, and key lime — available to purchase and take back with you to the ship.
Next up is a sea turtle research and conservation center: Cayman Turtle Farm. Learn how the turtle meat industry of the 17th and 18th centuries led to the development of the Cayman Islands. Marvel at 500-lb (226-kg) green sea turtles. Finally, enjoy one last ride in the Land Rover back to the George Town port.
